Regranulate is a common industry term for raw material made from recovered plastic and turned back into granules. Its source can be clean scrap generated during production, or material collected from used packaging.
Regranulate becomes granules again after processes such as sorting, washing, melting and filtering. Its properties can vary from batch to batch depending on its source and how it was processed; this is why colour, odour, flow behaviour and gel formation in the film are closely monitored. Regranulate is usually used blended with the main raw material in set ratios. Its use in applications such as food contact should be assessed against the relevant legislation.
