LLDPE is short for linear low-density polyethylene. Its density is close to that of LDPE, but its molecular structure is different: the main chain is straight and carries short, regular side branches. This structure gives the film higher impact strength and puncture resistance while keeping its flexibility.
In bag production, LLDPE is used on its own or blended with LDPE and HDPE. Added to a blend, it increases the film’s resistance to tearing and puncture, so the same job can be done with a thinner film. Garbage bags, courier bags and stretch films are typical applications. Because its melt is harder to process than LDPE, line settings are adjusted accordingly.
